Roller and load brake
 

strong inertia, innovative load brake ...

New load brake :

This large friction brake is special, with forced air and it replaces usual electric brake and is less expensive! Its endurance is sufficient for motorcycle bench tests. The large dimension of the brake allows a very slow wear of the lining.

Some figures : surface subject to friction : 5000 cm², maximum brake cooling air flow : 2000 m3/h.

For basic version, this brake is regulated by operator with a small wheel, accessible to left hand. Automatic adjustment is available as an option, allow user to fine drive the brake for injection tune. A load sensor give a precise value of load brake.

Hot air coming from brake is extracted with exhaust fumes, so the area is not over heated.

Strong inertia roller. Roller of 450mm diameter has a high inertia : 12 kgm². This gives a better test environment to simulate real world riding particularly engine and gearbox tests.

 

 
Particular advantages
 

speed of use, safety for technician and motorcycle ...

Motorcycle or scooter automatic fixing clamp. Front wheel is held in three places, with a rear anti-exit arch, which allows a total absence of straps to hold the bike.

Engine cooling adapted to loaded brake tests. Two units with centrifugal turbine (better than simple blowers because of their over pressure capabilities) are laid out on both sides of the motorcycle , directing a large air flow towards engine, exhaust and rear wheel with a 16000 m3/h flow. Reliability and repeatability requires normal thermal conditions.

Strong flow extractor of exhaust fumes adapted to stationary tests : max. 2300 m3/h with 2 adjustable inlets of exhaust extraction connected to bench with 2 large pipes Ø 150 mm. Innovation : inlets can be hung in front of the ramp for short mufflers, or behind for long mufflers.

The distance between the mouths and the mufflers is sufficient to see whether the exhaust fumes are blue (oil smoke), and avoid wrong back waves. Thus, this distance allow as well to place an external Lambda sensor without disrupting exaust flow.

 

 
Measurement system
 

from fast control until the injection : multipurpose ...

Measurements system : transportable multi sensors acquisition unit is connected to the PC by USB port.

For road or circuit tests you can bring this case on motorcycle ! Then recorded values are loaded in PC. Why? Certain very pointed adjustments require reproducing with high degree of accuracy the road conditions during bench tests.

Software : for quick checks (service, part exchanges...) software cannot be simple any more : you don’t have to use keyboard. You install the motorcycle, run it, test it, and put it down : a few minutes.

Main possible functions depending on connected sensors or apparatus :

  • Simple instant test of power (fast servicing control, second-hand, basic adjustments....).
  • Tests with multiple curves on two graphs : wheel power, crankshaft, slipping, losses, engine speed, temperature, pressure, fuel mixture (lambda), CO, CO2, HC, O2 (injection adjustments, more specialized controls, carburation, controls, fault diagnosis, ignition controls, transmission etc...).
  • Automatic brake piloting (road traffic simulation for searching anomalies, often coupled with manufacturers SDS type standard diagnosis system), or stabilize engine speed exactly.
  • All safeguard tests function, printing, files, comparison, examination...

 

 
Space required
 

space is money !

Another strong point of the DFi’s bench is compactness. All parts are integrated; a width of 1.20m and 3.40m length with the ramp down. The loading ramp is folded up to act as rear protection.

No building work is required prior to installation, no compressed air; you just have to install the Ø 250mm extraction tube to exit the building.

A sound-proofing is very compact too.

 

 
Obligatory compliance
 

take care of your own liability.

The unit consisted the test bench and the motorcycle is concerned with European directive 98/37/CE, if it is sold in the territory of the EC.

Thus, a test bench must be provided with sides and rear guards.

 
Guards : obligatory compliance !

If the rear guard is open, the roller should not be able to turn (obligatory action of a safety brake).

Caution : several manufacturers of dynamometers do not respect this European directive.

Even an organization of control does not have the authority to certify that a bench is in conformity.

The owner of the dynamometer is responsible in the event of accident with the bench, if this one is not in conformity.
